Today we’re finding out all about… space! Satellite. Rocket flight. Black hole. Starry stroll. Icy comet. Earth orbit. Space station. Gravitation. UFO. Blast off - go! Let’s get to those facts. First up: astronauts cannot cry! Sad, but true. In space there’s no gravity to pull things down. And that means tears don’t fall or flow. Instead, they float, like watery bubbles! Or cling onto your face until little puddles form under your eyes.
Has anyone got a tissue? Next…The footprints that astronauts left behind on the moon will be there forever. And it isn’t because they didn’t wipe their feet. The moon has no atmosphere and that means it doesn’t have any weather either. So there’s no wind or rain to blow and wash the tracks away. Next time, I’d suggest taking a brush. Next… Space is full of rubbish. And it’s mostly because of us. Ever since we started exploring space we’ve been leaving things behind. Bits of old rocket, an astronaut’s glove, a camera, tools and a toothbrush…They’re all floating around up there somewhere.
Maybe the next mission to blast off should take some bin bags and do some tidying up?! And finally… There are no green stars in space. The colour of a star depends on how hot it is, with all that gas burning inside. Red stars are the coldest. Blue stars are the hottest. And the star you know very well, the Sun, is yellow. With a temperature that’s somewhere in the middle. Just the right amount of heat to keep us toasty warm! Fact.
